ADAMS
Joseph Peter Adams, 82, died Dec. 17, 2009, after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Molly Smith Adams; children Dr. Daniel Adams, Houston; Dr. Laurie Frost (Mark), Huntsville, AL; Dr. John Adams, Brussels, Belgium (Franca); grandchildren Maxwell Frost and Iris Frost; Miami nephew James Kay, and many other extended family members. Services will be 2 pm Monday, Dec. 21 at the Coral Gables Congregational Church. A reception will follow at the church.
A lifelong resident of Miami from the age of 3 months, Joe graduated from Miami High in 1944, joined the Navy, then returned to earn his BS and MS at the University of Miami. Joe completed two years of graduate studies in pharmacology at Iowa State University, and in 1968 was awarded Rank A Certification following further graduate studies at Florida State University. He began his teaching career at Citrus Grove Junior High and retired in 1988 from Coral Gables High, where he taught physics and advanced placement biology.
Joe led a rich life enhanced by travels across the US and Europe. He took full advantage of South Florida's natural bounty, fishing in the bay and growing avocados, mangos, key limes, bromeliads, and palms. A 40-year member of the CG Country Club, he enjoyed tennis, bridge, and dancing with his beloved wife.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Heartland Kendall and special angel Mercedes Tulloch for all they did for their husband and father during his long battle.
