Joseph "Joe" Ward's Obituary
JOSEPH WARD, April 26, 1930 – October 5, 2010
Born to Joseph Tucker Ward and Gertrude Ross Ward, survived by his wife Bobbie Taylor, sister Trudy and husband Bud Miles of Riverside CA, daughter Lisa and Don DiGiacomo of Miami FL, daughter Laura Ward of Jensen Beach FL, and son James J. Ward, wife Michelle and grandchildren James J. Jr., Thomas and Susan of Auburndale FL.
Joe graduated from Miami Senior High and attended the University of Florida. He served his country in the United States Navy stationed on the USS Corson during the Korean War where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the China Service Medal and the United Nations Medal.
Upon returning Joe became a City of Miami Firefighter, serving for 27 years. He was honored and celebrated among the “First Paramedics”. On December 11, 1975, he received a resolution from the Mayor for Courage and Valor for saving Capt. Philip Powers from a burning building. He received a Key to the City and June 27, 1980 was proclaimed Joe Ward Day.
Joe was a past President of the AFL-CIO and served as Commander of VFW Post 1608 for 4 Years. He was that rare man amongst men. He loved to travel and attend his Ship reunions. He loved to work in his yard and was known for his Green Thumb. His other love that will miss him greatly is Dutchess, his Yorkie dog.

A Memorial Service with military honors will be held 2 pm Sunday, October 10th at
