Joseph Frank Ferreira's Obituary
Joseph Frank "Sonny" Ferreira, 98, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in Boca Raton, Florida. Born on August 2, 1927, in Meriden, Connecticut, Joseph lived a remarkable life filled with dedication to his family, faith, and country.
Joseph graduated from Lyman Hall High School and went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from Quinnipiac University. His professional career culminated as the manager of the DMV in Hamden, Connecticut, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 1987.
A proud veteran, Joseph answered the call to serves his country during two pivotal moments in history. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served during the final months of World War II. In 1952, he reenlisted—this time with the Air Force—and served as a First Lieutenant during the Korean Conflict. His service exemplified his unwavering commitment to duty and patriotism.
Joseph was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith. Having attended parochial school as a child, he remained devoted throughout his life and was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Boca Raton.
In addition to his professional and military accomplishments, Joseph found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved traveling to new places, casting a line while fishing, and spending time on the golf course. These hobbies brought him happiness and allowed him to connect with others who shared his passions.
Joseph is survived by his beloved daughter JoAnn of Boca Raton; his sister-in-law Adela Burguera; nieces Josephina and Begonia of Valencia Spain; and cousins Donald Pascale of Boynton Beach, Florida; Janet Verner of Cheshire, Connecticut; and Norma Jo Shore of Annandale, Virginia. He was predeceased by his cherished wife Presenta; parents Joseph and Angelina; brother Edward; and cousin Robert Morin.
A man of integrity and warmth, Joseph will be remembered fondly by those who knew him. His legacy of service, faith, and love for life will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church 10300 Yamato Rd. Interment will follow the the mass at the South Florida National Cemetery 6501 SR 7 S Lake Worth Fl 33449.
