Jon B Koch's Obituary
Jon B. Koch, 79, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at East Ridge Retirement Village in Cutler Bay following a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons Disease.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Elaine (Moehringer) Koch; his children, Lauren Glasco, Leslie Turner, Missy Billingsley, Jon Koch, Jim Koch and each of their families; his brother, Brad Koch and his family; fifteen grandchildren; and many close friends.
Born on August 5, 1932 and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he came to Miami to attend the University of Miami. After college and service in the Army, he became a permanent resident of Miami and continued to be a loyal Hurricane fan. He had a successful career as a mortgage broker, but volunteering with youth and kids, where he spent endless hours on the ball field coaching and mentoring young people, is where he made his mark on the community. Serving as a coach and county commissioner of Khoury League, Pop left a lasting impact on youth. An avid tennis player, he played with his foursome regularly until the Parkinsons Disease informed him it was time to hang up his racket.
The family would like to express gratitude to the Health Center staff for the loving care Jon received for the past ten years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Ridge Retirement Village Special Gift Fund, designated to the Health Center in memory of Jon Koch, 19301 SW 87 Avenue, Miami, FL 33157.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 in the East Ridge Chapel at 2:00 PM.
