John Robert Lindsey's Obituary
LINDSEY, John Robert, 89, passed away Friday, September 4, 2009 in Melbourne, Fl. Born in Ft. Madison, Iowa on September 27, 1919 he was the son of Edward E. and Margaret W. Lindsey. John was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Paul, Evelyn, Gene, Helen Wilson, Margaret LeRoux and one of his sons John Richard Lindsey.
John and his wife Doris lived in Miami, Fl most of their lives until they moved to Melbourne, Fl. in 2002. He attended St. Theresa Catholic School, (1st to 12th grade) Coral Gables, Fl. and also attended University of Miami, where he graduated with a law degree in 1950. Retired from the U.S. Army as a Lt. Col , John was drafted into the Army during World War II, stayed in the reserves and then was recalled to Active Duty to the 841 Engineer Brigade and was sent to Korea. He was later the Commanding Officer of the 841 Engineer Brigade. In 1952 and 1953, during the Korean War, he served as Legal Affairs Officer and staff Judge Advocate for the Commander, 417th Engineer Aviation Brigade (SCARWAF), Korea and received the Bronze Star Medal for his services. John was a sole practitioner lawyer, with his law firm in Coral Gables, a member of the Florida Bar Association for 59 years and past President of the Coral Gables Bar Association, 1957-1958.
He and Doris Wilcox were married in Marysville, Ca. on April 26, 1952. He is survived by his loving wife Doris Lindsey, son Warren Lindsey and his wife Eileen Forrester of Winter Park, Fl; daughter Carol Lindsey and husband Michael Sastre of Derwood, MD; grandchildren, Scott, Megan, and John Lindsey and Lindsey and Katie Sastre.
Visitation will be held on Thursday September 10, 2009 from 7-9pm at Van Orsdel Funeral Home.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday September 11, 2009 at 11:00am at the Church of the Little Flower, burial will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in his name to Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund 4450 Eau Gallie Blvd, Suite 250, Melbourne, Fl 32934 or The Salvation Army.
