John Joseph Karabasz's Obituary
John Karabasz of Coral Gables, born August 4, 1941, died unexpectedly Sunday while recuperating at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital. A nationally ranked tennis player, he graduated from the University of Miami where he was Captain of the Tennis Team and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After service in the Coast Guard he worked in a variety of companies in freight operations in the maritime industry at the Port of Miami. He was President of the Propeller Club, Port of Miami in 1983-1984 and selected as their Man of the Year in 1985.
Survivors in include his three brothers, Victor, Felix and James; nephews Stan, John, Michael and Douglas; and nieces Angela Smith and Laura Hernandez.
John was an avid sports fan and University of Miami supporter. His kindness, generosity and quick wit will be missed by his family and many friends.
Visitation will be 7 PM to 9 PM, Thursday, January 19th at the VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES, 4600 S.W. 8th Street, and burial will be at 10 AM, Friday in Miami Memorial Park at 6200 S.W. 77th Avenue, Miami. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be considered to the University of Miami Student Propeller Club Scholarship Endowment, of which John was a Founding Member, at the University of Miami, PO Box 248237, Coral Gables, FL 33124.
