JOHN B SPARKMAN's Obituary
SPARKMAN, JOHN B., III, 77, passed away on May 22, 2015. He was born in Miami, Florida on October 19, 1937 and was predeceased by his mother Mildred Sparkman Harris, father John B. Sparkman Jr., and stepfather Herbert Harris. John graduated from Coral Gables Senior High School in 1955, where he was captain of the football team and was All City and All State. He worked at Holsum Bakery for 3 years and joined the United States Marine Corps. in 1958. During basic training, he was chosen for the Presidential Honor Guard at 8th and I Streets in Washington, DC and served under Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy. John was an EMT and Driver Engineer with the Coral Gables Fire Department from 1963-1988. Upon retirement, he moved to Ft. White, FL and was mayor for 9 years. He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, Coral Gables, FL, and served as Property Chairman on the Church Council. In 2014, John received the Lutheran Services’ Good Samaritan Award for “unselfishly helping people in need.” He is survived by his wife, Timi Nichols-Sparkman, his 2 sons, John B. Sparkman IV (Toni) and Joel D. Sparkman, and 3 grandchildren, John B. Sparkman V, Taylor Sparkman and Luke Sparkman. John will be lovingly remembered by family and friends for his kind, gentle and giving spirit and unfailing sense of humor. His family thanks the Floridean Nursing Home and VITAS Hospice for their loving care and devotion. A private service will be held.
