JOAQUIN ROMERO's Obituary
Joaquin Romero, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Coral Gables Hospital in Miami, FL. He was born in Havana, Cuba to mother, Nieves Salicru Carrerra, and father, Francisco Romero Nussa, and had 7 siblings. He migrated to the United States in 1968 and took residence in Miami, Florida where he lived happily.
Joaquin was an inspiration to all who knew him, as he lived solely for those he loved. A testament to this is how he devotedly raised his four grandchildren, never hesitating to offer guidance and support in any way that he could. Since he valued family so very much, Joaquin was often the peace-maker and he made sure to stay in contact with family and friends. In his spare time, Joaquin spoke often of his life and family in Cuba. He spent most of his days with his favorite pet, Yankee, by his side, watching television or speaking with neighbors. Joaquin had an enormous sweet tooth and would enjoy eating desserts at any time of the day. He never asked for much and his pure contentment with the simple pleasures in life was admirable.
Joaquin was a hard worker as a manager at Air Sea Shipping in Miami, FL, from where he later retired. He was extremely loving and proud of his four grandchildren: Doaris, Deborah, Elmer and Daylene Perez. He is also survived by his son, Elmer Perez, and his three great grandchildren: Lorilee, Jazlyn and Zoey. Joaquin also has family in Cuba and many loving nephews and nieces in the United States including Adrian, Nieves and brothers Mauricio and Adriano.
Whenever Joaquin was asked how he was doing, he would reply humorously, “Más viejo que ayer, más joven que mañana.” His laugh was contagious and he shared joy with everyone with whom he came into contact. He was a wonderful grandfather, friend and confidant, and will be truly missed. Joaquin’s memory and legacy of selfless compassion will live on forever in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that loved ones consider donating and honoring Joaquin by making contributions in any amount to help the young family with the costs of services at the link below:
