JOANNE BROWN's Obituary
Joanne Brown, born January 14, 1932, in Scranton, PA, passed away peacefully at her home, on Sunday, December 20, 2015. Joanne was a pioneer in the Miami banking industry as one of the first women to serve on the Board of Directors with The Bank of Miami. She worked in banking for over 40 years and made many dear friends along the way. Anyone that knew Joanne knows that she made friends with everyone she met. In her retirement years, she enjoyed serving as Treasurer of the Pan American Orchid Society, spending time with dear friends and the orchids she loved. Her many friends at Leon Medical Center will fondly remember her as “Juanita Carmelita.” After losing her beloved husband Les in 2012, she continued to live at home, touching many and endearing herself to all. She cherished her family, and is survived by her sister Ann Maria Meyer (Victor); nieces, Melinda and Ellen; her daughter, Leslie Ann McKinney (Jim); grandson, Andrew (Jenn); son Wil (Jenny); her great-grandsons, Tyler and Jack Rusk, and their devoted father, Kevin; along with many other family members and loving friends who will miss her smile and love. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at 11:00 am at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES CHAPEL, 4600 SW 8 St. Sadly, Joanne recently lost her adored granddaughter, Jamie McKinney Rusk. In lieu of flowers, and in Joanne’s memory, memorial gifts may be made to the Rusk Brothers Education Fund, c/o Kevin Rusk, 2431 Trapp Avenue, Coconut Grove, FL 33133.
