Joan Ewald's Obituary
The best mother, grandmother, wife and friend passed away Monday, Nov. 17th, 2008. Joan was born in Chicago in 1927. She attended University of Chicago and left before graduation to work in Germany after World War II. When she returned to the states she worked as an editor for a medical journal and met her future husband, Thomas Ross Ewald. Joan and Tom married in 1957 and they moved to Washington, D.C. where they raised their two daughters Carolyn Ewald Guldberg and Mary Ewald Mader. Joan completed her undergraduate degree at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. In 1982 she moved with her family to Miami, FL. Joan worked on a Master's degree at University of Miami School of Business. She was very involved in the community, she was politically active, volunteered, belonged to book and poetry clubs, loved the arts, traveling, and spending time with her family. In addition to her children, Joan is survived by her granddaughter Kylie Marie Mader. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Tom, and her parents, Francis and Anastasia. In celebration of Joan's life, a service will be held Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm, Nov. 23rd, at Trinity Cathedral at 464 N.E. 16th Street, Miami, FL 33132. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to WLRN Radio Reading Service 172 NE 15th Street, Miami, FL 33132.
