Jeanne MacConnell Merritt
January 13, 1924 - July 5, 2022
Jeanne was predeceased by her parents Curtis and Beulah MacConnell, her husband James White Merritt Jr. M.D., her son William Curtis Merritt (wife Lindie Merritt), and her daughter Mary Kathryn Merritt.
She is survived by son James Patrick Merritt, granddaughter Kelly MacConnell Merritt Roten (husband Russell Roten), and great grandson William MacConnell Roten.
Jeanne was born in Hackensack New Jersey. As a young child she moved with her family to Punta Gorda Florida. She graduated from Charlotte High School there in 1942. Subsequently she attended and graduated from the Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1945. She practiced at Jackson as an operating room nurse. Eventually as head nurse. There she met her husband surgeon Dr. James W. Merritt Jr.
Jeanne was very active in the community. Including Saint Marys Altar Guild at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral which she truly loved. The Miami Junior Womans Club. The JMH Nurses Alumni. And many others too numerous to list.
In high school Jeanne was active in team sports. Including being part of a state championship swim team. She continued to love swimming and continued to swim regularly well into her eighties.
Jeanne was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and the best friend that anyone could ever have. She will be sorely missed. God bless You. Rest in peace. We Love You.
