Jean Claude Roche's Obituary
Jean Claude Roche, 90, of Miami‑Dade County, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 3, 2026, surrounded by the family he cherished.
Born in Port‑au‑Prince, Haiti, Claude was affectionately known as “Didi” to those closest to him. In the 1960s, he and his wife, Paulette, made the courageous decision to leave Haiti in search of greater opportunity, beginning a new chapter for their young family in New York. Ten years later, in July of 1972, they journeyed south and settled in Miami—a city that would become the heart of their family’s story.
Claude devoted much of his life to his work as an auto mechanic, approaching his craft with dedication, skill, and quiet pride. A natural communicator, he spoke English, French, Spanish, and Creole, a gift that allowed him to connect with people from every background and walk of life.
Away from the shop, he found joy in the golden era of professional wrestling and the timeless harmonies of Trio Los Panchos. His warm Creole humor—playful, sharp, and unmistakably his—brought laughter and comfort to those around him.
Claude lived with a steadfast work ethic and an even deeper devotion to his family. He was the kind of man who helped without hesitation and gave without expecting anything in return. In his later years, he embraced a gentler rhythm—reading his Bible, reflecting on his blessings, and savoring the peace of a life well lived.
He will be remembered as a steady, caring father and an extraordinary grandfather. His family will forever hold close the time spent with him, the quiet lessons he passed down, and the simple comfort of his presence. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.
Claude is survived by his children Claude Jr., Lena, Roger, Phillip, and Rosy; their spouses and partners; and his grandchildren and great‑grandchildren, all of whom carry his legacy forward.
A viewing will be held on Monday, May 11, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Van Orsdel Funeral Home on Kendall Drive in Miami, FL. A memorial service and interment will follow on Tuesday, May 12, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Doral, FL. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to a charity of one’s choice.
