James Wilson Murphy's Obituary
Murphy, James “Jack”, 78, of Coral Gables and Miami, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Born in Coral Gables in 1931, he was a loving father, brother and uncle, and a man of great faith who brought cheer and joy to all of those he met.
Jack graduated Ponce de Leon High School in 1949. After attending the University of Florida, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, he worked in show business for several years performing comedy pantomime, with a long-standing engagement of many years at the Johnina Hotel on Miami Beach. He then worked for Florida Power & Light as a field service representative and retired in the mid-1980s.
He demonstrated his faith through his actions and daily life. Jack served as a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Greater Miami in the 1960s, and he was then an active member of Grapeland Heights Baptist Church and Grace Bible Church. Jack was also a passionate golfer, and was a member of the 10th Holers at the Coral Gables Country Club. His generous spirit will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his daughter Lori and her husband George Fore of Houston, son Jim of Miami, brother Lorenzo “Pat” and sister-in-law Betty of Ketchum, Idaho, and nieces Kathy and Patti, also of Idaho. In lieu of a formal service, the family plans a private remembrance and celebration of his life. The family suggests a donation to the Diabetes Research Institute.
