James Vanhook, Jr.'s Obituary
James VanHook, Jr. affectionally known to family and friends as “Sonny Boy” or “Uncle Dut” was born July 25th, 1932 in Hillsborough, North Carolina to the late James VanHook, Sr. & Minnie Burt VanHook.
James later graduated from Hillsborough High School. Shortly after he worked as a sharecropper before he joined the United States Army. After James was done serving his country he moved to Miami, Florida for better opportunities and money where he worked at Royal Baking Company as a working Foreman from September 8, 1961 to October 21, 1983 and while working there, he met his beautiful wife, Lianne VanHook. The pair made history in the State of Florida becoming the first interracial couple allowed to marry after challenging the government to change the law. After James left the Bakery, he became a driver for farm stores and retired February 15, 1995.
James entered Gods Kingdom and Loving Arms to be reunited with his wife Lianne on November 26, 2024. He will forever live on in the thoughts and hearts of his loving family.
James VanHook, Jr. was preceded in death by his father; James VanHook, Sr, Mother; Minnie Burt VanHook, (4) sister; Ruth “Sis” VanHook, Beatrice VanHook, Thelma VanHook Wilson, and Mary Alice VanHook Burt, (1) Brother Willie “Pig” VanHook, His Loving Wife; Lianne VanHook. James is survived by his (2) Sons; Michael VanHook, Brian VanHook (Laconsta), (4) Grandchildren; Alexis VanHook, Briana VanHook, Brian VanHook, Jr., & Siar VanHook, (3) Great-Grandchildren; Amir Spires, Amari Knowles, & Cam-Ron Charles. (1) Aunt; Joise VanHook Poole; (1) Brother-in-law; Roosevelt Burt, (3) Nephews; Kenneth VanHook (Riddle), Minister Clifford Rogers (Eunice), & Samuel Sweeting (Brenda), and many other cousins, family members and friends.
