JAMES T FEBUS's Obituary
A TRIBUTE
James T. Febus, 72, of Palmetto Bay has left us too soon. He is survived by the love of
his life, Lydia, and their two sons, Darin J. and Eric J., daughter-in-law, Kristen, his
beloved grandson, Darin J. Jr. and another grandson to be born this December.
Jim was a son, a brother, a husband, a father and held each as an honor to have been
so. He was born in New York City, attended Bronx Community College and was a very
proud veteran serving his country in the Marine Reserves for six years. It was at Bronx
College that he met Lydia where they both found themselves in the same Spanish class
“looking for easy A’s”. They were friends first and dated four years before marrying in
NYC. Jim was hired by NY Tel and was ultimately transferred to Florida with Bell
South/AT&T. Through the years, Jim held many positions within AT&T and retired as
Network Manager, Planning & Provisions Division.
Jim privately took great pride in his educational accomplishments. He completed his
undergraduate degree in Miami at Nova Southern University and went on to get his
Master’s in Business Administration also at Nova.
Jim’s Bucket List was well attended to as he and Lydia visited all seven continents of
the world and experienced a multitude of wonderful, memory-making adventures.
High on Jim’s everyday agenda: to laugh hardily with others and bring enjoyment.
Every family member and friend can, and will, relive the endless fun times with Jim.
After the love of his family, he loved his boat next and could sit on it for hours on end
with a fishing pole in his hand though catching little most of the time.
Jim loved jazz (Take 5 and Dave Brubeck), travel, having family and friends to their
home to entertain and martinis! He was the best martini maker in South Dade and,
during his travels around the world, was often found behind a restaurant’s bar making
his own and giving the bartender pointers. He felt very strongly about his political
views and, without exception, accepted everyone as an equal with zero prejudice and
heartedly believed we are all children of the world. Jim enjoyed the local YMCA and
their exercise program and friendships.
Jim’s core was his family. Once his grandson was born, he and Lydia stepped up to
add to his life and its value. Darin Jr. spent every summer and Christmas, since he
was four, with them in Miami, filled with boating, fishing, camp and routing him on at
the many swimming meets.
So many will keep Jim Febus in their hearts forever; whether you knew him always or
a short time. Till we meet again…
The family looks forward to seeing friends at Jim’s memorial service at the Riviera
Presbyterian Church, 5275 Sunset Drive Miami on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be much appreciated to the American
Cancer Society
