JAMES B. BYRNE's Obituary
JAMES BRENNEN BYRNE, M.D.
07/24/23 – 10/14/14
Born in Scottdale, PA, and raised during the difficult times of the Great Depression, Jim was greatly influenced by the kindness and compassion shown by his parents to both neighbors and strangers. He carried that with him throughout his life as demonstrated by his generous nature and by the numerous times he opened his home to others.
Married to the love of his life, Kay, for 59 years, he taught his three children what it means to be in a committed relationship and the importance of “Family”. Jim believed that one of the most important things he could provide for his children was an education. He set the bar high and led by example.
A proud American, Jim spent WWII in medical school as a Naval officer and then enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War, where he served as a Flight Surgeon stationed in Japan. He was awarded the “Soldier’s Medal” for heroism.
Jim practiced medicine in Miami for more than 20 years and eventually retired as the Medical Director of Bellsouth.
He spent his life trying to “do the right thing”. Jim will be remembered as a kind, generous and wise soul. He died surrounded by many people who loved him dearly. He is survived by his wife, three children, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and loving caretaker, Vilma.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Epiphany on Saturday October 18, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.
