Jacqulyn Yde Alschuler's Obituary
Died Saturday, June 27 – one day after her birthday – after an extended courageous contest with cancer...an enormous loss for her family and friends.
An award-winning Interior Designer, Jacklyn Rae Grove was born in Freeport, IL in 1935. Following her first marriage and birth of five children, she graduated with honors from Chicago's Harrington Institute of Design.
Arriving in Miami in 1981, Jackie was associated initially with two prominent local architects: with James Deen, as the first designer at Fisher Island, and with Robert Swedroe, in creating attractive public spaces, from Aventura to Destin.
Jacqulyn Yde's namesake multi-disciplinary interior and color design firm specialized in commercial and residential interiors, many featured in consumer and industry publications, along with her commentaries on color and light.
Past president of the Institute of Business Designers' Florida Chapter and a long-time member of ASID, her comprehensive redesign and new colors for the Metro-Dade County Auditorium “transformed its formerly drab interior into a dazzling Deco-Inspired theatrical setting,” according to Barbara Baer Capitman, Who lauded her “consummate articulation of the concert hall's distinctive architectural features.” ensuring recognition by the International Art Deco Society.
Her architectural color commissions included hotels and condominiums, schools and parking garages throughout South Florida, while her creative interiors highlighted more than a dozen Festivals of the Trees heres, along with assorted designer showhouses and similar events.
She is survived by her devoted husband Al Alschuler, whom she wed in 1999, their cherished cats and a host of caring friends, along with her five belove children – Michael (Nancy) Yde; Michelle (Michael) Boden; Mark (Jan) Yde, and her grandsons Trevor and Jude; Matthew Yde; and Gregg (Stacy) Yde, and grandson Austin, as well as a brother, Barry Groves, and her step-children: Mari and David Alschuler and Mark (Jaime) Van Wye.
