IDA MARIE SCHOEN's Obituary
Schoen Gaughan, Ida Marie was the matron of a big family of seven children, their spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren and relatives far and wide. An adventurous and fun-loving woman until illness forced her to slow down and eventually confined her to her couch and her bed. For the last few years, she was unable to be herself. While her mind continued to wander, her body could not follow her dreams. Ida Marie passed away in her sleep on April 19th, 2014, a couple of weeks shy of her 94th birthday. Her children lovingly referred to her as the “Commandant”, for she never failed to give orders and make things happen. Her grandchildren will always remember her for the tasks and challenges she always gave them as youngsters and for her exciting adventures. Most importantly, all her surviving family remembers her for her unconditional love and generosity. She was a devout catholic, a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church Golden Agers, a believer in physical fitness who remained very active until she could no longer do so and a woman who gave of herself to all who came into her life. Ida Marie was born in New Jersey, worked and lived in Washington DC during the War and moved to Florida where she was a long time resident of Coral Gables. Her loving husband, Meredith, passed away many years before and she now joins him in heaven where we are all sure that she is happily giving orders again. She is survived by her children, Roy (Karen), Paul (Ann), Gary (Deborah), Gail, Teresa, Kathryn and Mary (Osvaldo), 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.She exemplified that life is to be lived to the fullest. She was always ready to go at the drop of a hat and now she is finally “Gaughan” to be re-united with Meredith and look over her family from heaven. We love you and we miss you. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Van Orsdel Kendall Chapel, 11220 N. Kendall Dr., Miami. A mass of the resurrection will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church, 7270 SW 120 Street, Miami on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Flagler Memorial Park.
