H.W. Allen Sweeny's Obituary
SWEENY,
Henry Ware Allen Sweeny peacefully passed away on August 10. He was born on May 10, 1934 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Arthur Cary Sweeny and Winifred Allen Sweeny.
Mr. Sweeny graduated from the University of Kansas and received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School as a Teagle Scholar. He retired as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Del Monte Foods, headquartered in Coral Gables.
Prior to that, Mr. Sweeny served in a variety of financial, development and general management positions for Exxon and RJR Nabisco while living in Argentina, Colombia, Hong Kong, Japan and the U.S. In addition to his several foreign assignments he traveled extensively throughout the world, particularly in China where he negotiated the RJR Nabisco joint venture. In 1990, he completed a nine-month consulting assignment in Hong Kong for the reorganization and restructuring of Del Monte’s business operations in Asia.
Mr. Sweeny wrote eight books on accounting, strategic planning and international financial management and taught these subjects at the Columbia Graduate School of Business and the Fordham Graduate School of Business in New York.
In retirement, Mr. Sweeny had a variety of business and community interests and was appointed to the City of Miami’s International Trade Board. He was a trustee of the Foundation for Villa Vizcaya and acted as its treasurer.
Mr. Sweeny is survived by his devoted wife of thirty years Donna, his loving children from his first marriage to Petrea Doty, Peter (Sarah Waldron), Cris (Claire Lardner), Catherine, J. David, and eight grandchildren Petrea Rose, Miles Taylour, Sage, Jae, William, Henry, Margaret and Anna.
Services will be held at 2 P.M.Sunday August 14th, at Riviera Presbyterian Church, 5275 Sunset Drive, South Miami. Following the services the family will receive guests at the home of Cris Sweeny, 6971 S.W. 64th Court, South Miami.
