Humberto Rodriguez's Obituary
Humberto Adrian Victor Rodriguez, 85 of Miami, passed away surrounded by family on February 27, 2023. He was born in Havana, Cuba in 1937 to Casiano and Maria Teresa Rodriguez. After studying to become an accountant, he fell in love and married his wife of sixty-four years, Delfina Rodriguez, who also passed away just three months ago. Like many Cubans of their generation, they fled Cuba after the Revolution with their two daughters Maria Cristina Mata and Adriana Wojnar who survive them today. The family was relocated to Williamsburg, Brooklyn where Humberto was hired as a seasonal temp-worker at a furniture store, transcribing addresses for holiday cards. “Bert,” as they called him, did such an excellent job that they hired him full time and there, he quickly rose through the ranks and learned how to sell furniture.
He barely knew the language, but he knew people extremely well. He used his infectious personality, charm and sharp sense of humor to make friends everywhere he went, but more importantly, to support his family and create a better life for his daughters. He was a natural-born salesman, and when he moved the family to Miami, he became the top furniture seller everywhere he worked for the rest of his career. Because of that hard work and dedication to his family, he is now survived by grandchildren Danny Fernandez, Cristina Tolle, Ashley Wojnar, Brittany Thomason, Michael Wojnar, Jesica McLane, Fernando Mata, and Nicholas Mata and great-grandchildren Evan Adrian Thomason, William McLane, Charles McLane, Isabelle McLane, Fernando Mata Jr, Leo Mata, Emilio Mata, and Elias Mata. He is also survived by his sons-in-law Fernando Mata and Thomas Wojnar; several nieces and nephews, his sister-in-law Caridad Bosch, and his mother-in-law, Maria Cristina Bosch; two brothers, Roly and Nené, and one sister, Beba.
Besides his family, his greatest passion was baseball, and specifically, the New York Yankees. Bert was always the life of the party and he loved sharing his favorite music and food with anyone he’d meet. To his grandchildren, he will always be Titó, and they will always cherish the countless hours of home movies he created for them. His family is forever thankful for the love and sacrifices he made, always putting his family before himself. Titó leaves behind a powerful legacy of love, laughter and a passion for life that will always serve as a reminder to live life to the fullest. Now reunited with the love of his life, Bert and Delfy will live on forever together in heaven, and in the hearts of those who were blessed to know them.
