HUBER RAYMOND PARSONS JR's Obituary
Huber Raymond Parsons, Jr.
After a 3.5 year fight against cancer, Huber Raymond Parsons, Jr, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2023, at Doctor’s Hospital in Coral Gables, FL. His family is grateful to have confidence that he is restored to full health in his heavenly and eternal home with God, because of his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. Huber’s life was marked by love for his wife and family, community leadership, humor, and service to others. He was a loving husband for 52 years, a dedicated father, a thoughtful grandfather, and a successful lawyer. He grew up in Atlanta, GA, as the only child of Huber Raymond Parsons and Margie Christine (Jackson) Parsons. In his youth, he enjoyed outdoor adventure, earned his Eagle Scout badge, and was recognized as a National Merit Scholar.
He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Emory University, where he pursued brief summer studies at the University of Utrecht, Netherlands, and at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. He received a Juris Doctorate degree in 1971 from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he was involved in Student Government. He was also active in the establishment of the Student Judiciary where he served as the first Chief Justice of the Judicial Council. He was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia and to the Florida Bar.
Soon after, he married the former Phyllis Fincher, and they moved to Jacksonville, FL, where Huber clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Charles Ray Scott. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. In 1973, the couple moved to the Miami area where he joined the Paul, Landy, and Beiley law firm. After several years, he opened his own law practice where he represented clients in commercial real estate transactions for 30 years. In addition to his professional career, Huber dedicated much of his time to service in the church and community. Over the years, he was an active member of various Presbyterian Church in America churches, serving as an elder and teaching youth Sunday School. Before his illness, he was a regular member of the Men's Bible Study at the Riviera Country Club, where he and Phyllis were long-time members. They enjoyed travel together and with their children, domestically to national parks and internationally. Additionally, they enjoyed music and were season ticket holders of the New World Symphony.
Passionate about quality education, Huber served on the boards of Trinity Episcopal School and Palmer Trinity School, and he was an avid reader. Indicative of his love for the outdoors, he was a member of the Tropical Audubon Society and the Sierra Club, led the Miami River Coordinating Committee for several years, and chartered Boy Scout Troop 767 for which he served as Scoutmaster. As an engaged citizen, Huber was a member and former President of the 200 Club, former President of the Biltmore II Condominium Association, former head of the Coral Gables Police Crime Commission, and served on U.S. military academy nomination review panels. He was an enthusiastic supporter of local law enforcement and of the U.S. military and intelligence communities. Huber had a sincere heart for his family and friends, and he was intentional about leading by example. Known as "Denali" to the grandkids, he cared deeply for all his children, grandchildren, and extended family. To his friends, Huber was loyal, generous, sharp-witted, and thoughtful.
He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Fincher Parsons; son Huber Raymond Parsons III (wife Angela Barr Parsons, children Ruth Marie Parsons, Nathan Lee Charles Parsons, Joy Christine Parsons, Claire Danielle Parsons, and Amelia Jane Parsons); son William Wesley Fincher Parsons (wife Molly McClintock Parsons, children William Gregory Parsons, Samuel Andrew Parsons, Gabriel Alexander Parsons, Helen Margaret Parsons, Levi Joshua Parsons, Kathryn Sophia Parsons, and Elise June Parsons); daughter Christine Parsons Piletz (husband Andrew John Piletz, children Asher John Piletz, Madison May Piletz, and Gabriella Grace Piletz); son Charles Ray Scott Parsons (wife Danielle Rebecca Parsons, children Charles Robert Parsons, Hope Elizabeth Parsons, and Jacob Huber Parsons); and Heidi, his beloved miniature dachshund.
The Visitation will be on Saturday, May 27, from 2:00-4:00pm at Van Orsdel Funeral Chapel, 4600 SW 8th Street, Coral Gables, FL 33134. A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Sunday, May 28, at 2:00pm at Kendall Presbyterian Church, 8485 SW 112th St, Miami, FL 33156.
In lieu of flowers the family requests gifts in Huber's memory be sent to either Kendall Presbyterian Church (www.kendallpres.org) or to Immanuel Christian School (www.icsva.org,
