HERBERT ALEXANDER MASTERS's Obituary
Herbert Alexander Masters, born May 3, 1929 in Bocas del Toro, Panama died peacefully, surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. A graduate of Excelsior High School, Herbert worked for many years for United Sugar at their Bernard Lodge plant. An avid athlete and lover of sports, he played cricket for Bernard lodge and eventually became coach. The team soon won their division. He married the great love of his life, Monica Maria Clayton and they spent 68 wonderful years together. He loved her utterly and passionately, always. A man of God, he attended Calvary Gospel Assembly where he became a distinguished deacon. A well respected mentor and natural leader, Herbert eventually became the Pastor of Arlene Gardens Gospel Assembly. The family immigrated to Hartford, Connecticut in 1978. Herbert continued to serve God even though no longer in an official capacity. He became known as the ‘Dean’ and led a prayer group of young men, mentoring them and helping to strengthen their walk with the Lord. Herbert worked as a salesman and manager of a local furniture store in Bloomfield and in New Britain Connecticut until his retirement and subsequent move to Florida in the early 90s. There, he once again picked up the mantel of shepherd and became the inaugural Pastor of South Florida Gospel Church until he retired in 2005. Herbert’s love of God, his wife, and his family, his insightful teaching of God’s Word, and his love and acceptance of all, no matter their station, standing, or lot in life are hallmarks of his legacy. Along with his sweet Marie, he leaves behind his loving children, Tony, Donald, Edward, Anna-Maria, Karen, and Jacqueline, his sister Louise Phipps, 19 Grandchildren and 11 Great-grandchildren.
