Helen Housen Kahill's Obituary
KAHILL, HELEN HOUSEN passed away peacefully on January 29, 2009 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was the beloved mother of Harry Housen, Miami,
George Housen, Albany, Georgia and Christine Housen, Key Biscayne. She is also
survived by sisters Irene Karcher, Tina Ramos, brother Harry Athalis (Judy) along
with her honorary sister Mary Brice Carroll and numerous nieces, nephews.
Helen was born in Miami on July 18th, 1930. She graduated from Miami High and the
University of Miami. Mitchel and Mary Athalis, her parents, were founding members of
St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She and her husband, Harry Housen, who
predeceased her in 1964, were founding members of the Key Biscayne Yacht Club where Helen was very active throughout its inception. Helen was a real estate broker for 17 years. In addition, she is predeceased by her husband Victor Kahill and sisters
Venus Poulos, Charlotte Miller and Ann Benson. Helen’s compassion for the less fortunate, relentless optimism and wicked wit will be missed by all who loved her. Viewing and Trisagion service will be held at Van Orsdel Coral Gables Funeral Chapel on Thursday, February 5th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held
at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2401 Coral Way, Miami at 11:00 a.m on
Friday, February 6th with internment at Woodlawn Park, North.
