Helen Bragassa Massey's Obituary
Massey, Helen Margaret (nee Bragassa) 90, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in South Miami on February 17, 2012. Helen was a 4th generation conch, proud to have been born & raised in Key West, FL. Helen graduated as a registered nurse from St Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. As a US Navy nurse, her heart was captured at a USO dance by a handsome Navy pilot, Jack E. Massey, whom she wed in 1945 at the close of WWII. They shared their deep love for each other for 57 years until Jack preceded her in death in 2003. She was also preceded in death by son John Carlin in 2005. She is survived by her son Don Massey (Barbara) and daughter Patricia Massey Byers as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, grand/great grand nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. Helen’s remarkable sense of humor and delightful spirit won her friends wherever she went. Past or current member of the American Legion, Salty Dawgs Square Dance Club, Elks Club, Epiphany Catholic Church and Eucharistic Minister at St Justin Martyr Catholic Church, Key Largo FL. Special thanks to Helen's caregiver, Ruby Dawkins, for her dedication and patience. Catholic Hospice was a great help in the last months. Helen’s family and many friends will miss her more than words can begin to say. Mass of the Christian Burial Tuesday February 21 at the Church of the Epiphany at 10:00 a.m. Family requests in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the charity of your choice. Interment Woodlawn North Cemetery. VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES.
