HEATHER ANN BRIDGEMAHON's Obituary
Heather Ann Bridgemahon was born in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies to the late Ronald Bridgemahon & his wife Hyacinth Collymore Bridgemahon. She was the 1st of their 2 daughters & was christened as a baby & remained her entire life a devout & lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church. Growing up she attended Rushbrook Preparatory School, Mico Practicing School & St. Hilda’s Diocesan High School where she graduated with a Senior Cambridge Certificate. After graduation she worked at the Ministry of Education & left to pursue a career in banking with The Bank of Nova Scotia, Duke Street, Kingston & other locations in Jamaica. Heather immigrated to New York City in the mid 1970’s to join her mother Hyacinth who had immigrated there earlier. They quickly relocated to Florida because the climate was more like Jamaica’s. Heather continued working in the banking industry & retired as a Bank Auditor for the State of Florida. She enjoyed her work & the camaraderie with co workers who became her dear friends. In 2008 she was diagnosed with CMML a rare type of leukemia & she focused on trying to overcome it by getting various chemotherapy treatments & transfusions. In September 2013 the leukemia had progressed to AML & she entered Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida for more treatment of the disease. However her heart could not sustain the required 5 days of aggressive chemotherapy & she returned to South Florida where she continued to be treated by her oncologist & was admitted at different times to both Baptist & South Miami hospitals. She accepted a hospice program in January 2014 & it was administered at her Miami home. Heather entered a nursing home in Coral Springs, Florida on March 3, 2014 where she died on March 6, 2014. Heather enjoyed traveling especially her vacations in England, Europe, Barbados, Alaska & definitely Jamaica. She enjoyed spirited conversations about current affairs. Heather enjoyed watching tennis & golf on TV & was knowledgeable & opinionated about these sports. Watching British Television series on PBS was another favorite. She also enjoyed attending tennis tournaments on Key Biscayne & Wimbledon when she was healthy. She is survived by her sisters Michele Anderson, Gloria Harper, Pauline Henry & Norma Robertson. Brothers –in-law Rufus Anderson & Donald Harper. Nephews Shaun & Jason Lusan. Niece Kimberly Anderson. Aunts Eunice Collymore & Ena Collymore Woodstock. Dear cousins Careth Flash, Robert Woodstock & Marguerite Woodstock Riley, Richard & Brian Collymore, Sandra Daley, Patricia, Christine, Paula Grace & Antonio Anderson. Also numerous dear cousins, nieces, nephews, god-daughters & dear friends who loved her as much as she loved them. Heather will be dearly missed and always remembered with love.
