Harry Joseph Holden's Obituary
Harry Joseph Holden, Miami, Florida, passed away on March 18, 2011. He was born on October 16, 1921 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Harry Holden and Matilda Mc Killop Holden of (Lancashire) England. He is preceded in death by his parents and loving sister, Helen Mae Sirman.
He was a veteran of WWII. He enlisted in the Army Air Force at the age of 18, served as a Control Tower Operator, Radio Operator/Mechanic. He was Stationed in Ft. Scott, Ft Dix and Miami Beach, Germany and France. (flew many mission over Germany and France).
He graduated with Bachelor of Science from the University of Miami; Master of Education from University of Miami; Doctorate of Education from University of Northern Colorado. He was a member of Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, University of Miami.
He was a registered and licensed R.E. Broker in the State of Florida since 1950.
He was Founding V.P. of the Optimist Club at Unity on the Bay,1996. He had a sincere commitment to tutoring children in Math, serving with the Community and Unity on the Bay on program to feed the hungry and Neighborhood enhancement.
Beginning at age 4 years, he played the accordion for tips during the depression to help the family eat. An accomplished accordionist he toured the Eastern U.S coast from the Pokano’s, the East coast down to Miami Beach and the Fountain Bleu Hotel Poodle Lounge. In 1955, he opened the Hasta, playing the revolutionary Hammond B-3 where he reigned 15 years and play for celebrates including President Nixon, John F. Kennedy and Jimmy Durante
He enjoyed to the fullest his students and colleagues at Lindsey Hopkins Educational Center where he taught Business Education and Bookkeeping for thirty years. He treasured his students and their accomplishments.
Survived by; loving wife, Jean Whobrey Holden of 52 years; Nephews Ronald Sirman (Chris); Thomas Sirman (Leah); Niece Cathy Shillace (Michael); sister-in-law Earlene Harris, bothers-in law Rodger and Duane Whobrey;
