Gloria Mary Basila's Obituary
BASILA
Gloria M. 85, a lifelong resident of Miami, passed away Saturday. She was devoted to her family, her church and her community in countless ways. She is survived by her brother Richard (Barbara); nephews, Richard, Jr. and John (Dalia), nieces Beverly and Jennifer (Javier) Castillo; four great nieces and many other family members and dear friends. She graduated from Gesu High School in 1943 and from FSU with a degree in Business Administration in 1947. In the 1960’s, she obtained her real estate broker’s license and worked nearly a half century in the real estate business as co-owner with her brother Basila Realty in downtown Miami. Involved in her community, she was an active member of the Salam Club of Miami. For nearly 30 years, she was a member of City of Miami Zoning Board and for over 25 years, she managed the Senior Citizens Center at Gesu Catholic Church with her longtime dear friend, Sr. Maura Philips, O.P. She was a faithful member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Upon her retirement, she devoted herself tirelessly to the care of her beloved mother, Helen, who passed away in 2004. Visitation Tuesday 7 – 9 pm with services at 8 pm at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES, 4600 SW 8TH ST. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 11 am at Sts. Peter and Paul, 900 SW 26 RD. Burial Woodlawn Park North.
