GLORIA M LLEWELLYN's Obituary
Gloria M Llewellyn, 91, a Miami resident for over seven decades passed away peacefully after a long illness on December 8, 2017. She was involved in various social and cultural organizations in her earlier years. Because of these activities, she regularly appeared in the social pages of The Miami Herald, often with commentary on her uncanny resemblance to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, which we are sure pleased her greatly. And she maintained her great fashion sense well into her eighties which added to the sense of her being ageless. After the dissolution of her marriage, she studied finance to become a stock broker where she achieved great success and worked for such firms as Paine-Webber, Dean-Witter and Dominick and Dominick. She rose in the ranks of the companies, a difficult task for a middle-aged woman at the time. And that was okay with her as long as you didn’t refer to her as middle-aged. She was an avid sports fan, particularly when it came to her Dolphins and Gators. Her only son, her beloved David, was lost at sea just a few years after he received his law degree from the University of Florida. It was a loss from which she never truly recovered. For years, until no longer utile, she drove the corvette he had bought himself as a means of maintaining some link with him. Gloria was an “Auntie Mame” type of person because of the great love and generosity she always showed to those around her. This was manifest to her relatives as well as the countless and long-lasting friendships culled over her lifetime. She is survived by her brother, Louis Mamo, as well her nephews, Michael Mamo (Joanne) and Mark Mamo (Eileen) and many great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Despite the setbacks and tragedies, we are all grateful for her long and successful life and we pray she will finally be reunited with her David. Visitation 10 am Friday until Service 11:15 am with a reception until 12:30 pm at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES. Immediately following she will be interred next to her son at 1:00 PM in Woodlawn Park Cemetery.
