Gladys Herrick Cedergren Hoffman's Obituary
Gladys Herrick Cedergren Hoffman, age 85, was welcomed into heaven on September 21st 2020 at Jensen Beach, Florida. Born in The Bronx, New York in 1935, Gladys graduated from Fordham University, then became a flight attendant with Eastern Air Lines, where she would meet a handsome pilot named Ernest Cedergren from Pennsylvania. They married and started a family in Miami.
Over the years, Gladys was the office manager of several condominium companies, utilizing her organizational skills. She was an avid reader of fictional novels and had a keen intellect of many topics, which made her a whiz at trivial pursuit game matches. And many would attest to her rapier wit.
Gladys was also a member of The Silver Liners Club for retired flight attendants and enjoyed getting together at reunions and sharing stories about their exploits in the skies. She was also a great ballroom dancer and loved listening to the music of Frank Sinatra.
As a devout Catholic, Gladys and her husband Ernie were founding members of St. Louis Catholic Church in Pinecrest, Florida and their children were raised in the Catholic faith.
She is survived by her daughters, Laura (Cedergren) Collier and Linda (Cedergren) Glennon, and son-in-law Ralph M. Collier.
She was predeceased by her son, Eric Cedergren; her parents, Samuel and Ruth Herrick; her brother Joseph Herrick; her first husband Ernest Cedergren; and second husband Melvin Hoffman.
Gladys is now flying amongst the stars on a 727 Whisperliner in the fleet of Angel Airlines, with Ernie as the captain. And she’ll be dancing over the rainbow with Eric, who will be choreographing their dance routines for eternity. And, of course, she has returned to her youthful, glamorous self of yesteryear, free of the pains of age that she felt on earth. Until we meet again in heaven, as the song says “we will be remembering the shadow of your smile”.
