GERTRUDE PERDIAN BURRUS's Obituary
Gertrude (Georgejean) Perdian Burrus was born January 7, 1917 and died peacefully on March 18, 2016. She was a nurse, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Gertrude was born in Farrell, PA to Stella and Frances Perdian. She was educated and trained as a nurse before joining the U.S. Navy as a nurse and officer during WWII. While on duty, she met the love of her life, a Naval Fireman, 1st Class named Ed, who was one of her patients. She ended her naval career to marry him. She remained the devoted wife of Edward C. Burrus Sr. for 48 years prior to his death in 1990. In 1947, they moved to Miami where they had five children. During that time she resumed her nursing career at Doctor’s Hospital in Coral Gables, where she worked for forty years. Her kindness and compassion transcended all parts of her life. She was a role model, teacher, advisor, a friend and a constant source of reassuring confidence. She is remembered fondly by friends, family and colleagues. She is survived by her children: Edward Carter, Jr. (Pat), Alison, Marcia(Chris), Lisa and Peggy and her surviving grandchildren, Jeffrey (Seana), Vanessa (Noel), Merritt, Caity (Chris), Kyle and Sam and her great grandchildren: Dustin, Ruthie, Jack and Cameron. She is beloved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Visitation 7 – 9 pm Wednesday March 23rd at VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES. Service 10 am Thursday March 24th at the Our Lady of Mercy Mausoleum Chapel. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Catholic Hospice, 14875 NW 77 Avenue, Miami Lakes, Florida 33016.
