Daddy was born on July 17, 1935, in Hopetown, Abaco, Bahamas, to parents Gerald Sweeting and Mary Louise Russell. He was an original “Conch” and enjoyed a lifetime of diving and fishing. Daddy spent his life next to the ocean where he was most at home. His family and friends will always remember him as a kind & generous man who truly loved family and friends. His loyalty, joy, and determination were an inspiration to all. Daddy and Mommie were grade school pen pals, meeting in Miami at about the age of 16. In a few weeks’ time, they became engaged. He returned to the Bahamas to work and save money for their marriage; and Mommie worked while completing her GED at Coral Gables High School. They married in the Bahamas on December 24, 1954, and in the United States on June 25, 1955. Daddy became an American citizen and worked in restaurants before operating several Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises. Our daddy was the most precious man; the most humble servant; the most loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend; a man of wit and integrity; a man who brightened each and every day—so blessed to have been loved by you, so thankful to have had you to love. “Life is a journey that is homeward bound”. May the sun guide your way home Daddy with a gentle breeze at your back filling your sails with calm waters ahead.
