George Oliver, restauranteur and interior designer dies
George Ronald Frederick Oliver passed away peacefully in his home in Miami on May 23, 2018, with his husband and partner of 36 years, Eddie by his side.
George died from respiratory and heart problems.
George was born to Jenny Rice and Norman Eric Oliver in Rangoon, Burma (Myanmar) on July 20, 1937. In 1949, George moved with his family to London, England. He had 3 brothers and 4 sisters. George attended school in England and served in the English Royal Army at 18.
At the age of 20, George moved to New York City to work in Fashion. He lived between New York and Miami for over twenty years and afterwards he split his time between Miami and Highlands, NC.
George was a very successful interior designer nearly six decades. During the 70's, George co-owned the award winning Coral Gables restaurant, the Whiffenpoof. Later, he co-owned an exclusive antiques shop in Highlands, NC for almost thirty years.
George was an amazing Husband, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He loved to travel, entertain and decorate. He was engaging and very kind. George loved his family and he loved to laugh. He knew the best places to eat and he was an incredible cook. He lived a full and interesting life and was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
George is survived by his spouse, his six remaining brothers and sisters in England and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces/nephews in England and the US.
