George Ernest Mena, 90, of Murrells Inlet, SC died peacefully at Tidelands Hospice House in Georgetown, SC on Saturday, April 7, 2012. He is survived by his brother Frank Mena, Jr. and his wife Connie, along with nieces Teri and Marsha and their spouses and children. He is preceded in death by the love of his life Elizabeth Fox Mena and his nephew Frank A. Mena III. He leaves behind a daughter, Dianne Mena Samuels and her husband Jeffrey of Independence, KY; grandchildren, Heidi Samuels Marsh and her husband Vincent of Georgetown, KY; Nathaniel Samuels and his wife Emily of Hebron, KY and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Samuel and Maximus Marsh; Mercedes and Allana Samuels. George is also preceded in death by a loving second wife Myrle Kelley Mena. He leaves behind a dedicated stepdaughter Beverley Kelley Davenport and her son Casey Davenport, also stepchildren, Bill Kelley and Peggy Kelley Holbrook, along with their spouses, children and numerous grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Florida. The last years of his life, he has shared his heart with his dear friend, Carol Bryson Lanford. George was a proud WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force in Europe. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Surfside Presbyterian Church, Myrtle Beach, SC with Dr. Rev. Julian Riddle officiating. Interment with military honors will be held 1:30 PM, Thursday, April 12, 2012 in Woodland Park Cemetery South, Miami, FL. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Mena’s name be made to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, SC 29440 or to your local hospice.
