I remember meeting George at the Miami Harvard Club reception during his Freshman year. We were both Scholar Athletes from Miami who went to Harvard and became immediate friends. He was a wonderful human being.

George was my employer for five years and I held him in great esteem. What i loved about him was that he appreciated other's talents as well. And he often helped others in their own endeavors. He was such a vibrant man, you wished you had that kind of energy, too. May your next journey be even greater and we all hope to meet you yet again. (I had a dream about him and as so often in my dreams, i knew I had better google him and HOPE it was not his obit but alas it was...this happens to me a lot) but i dd not have the dream until September 18, 2014 so here i am now. we almost shared the same birthday, Mine is on September 28, 1948 and his September 27,1948. Take care, George and love is all around you. Pam Griffin
A tragedy beyond words. George's achievements are a tribute to Father Mekras, and especially reflect on his mother, Toula. George's story serves as a paragon of excellence to all parents who raise children, who can only imagine even one of George's accomplishments for their own child. He was truly God's gift to us. Our heartfelt sorrow and sympathy to all his relatives and to those close to him.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Mekras family. George was a wonderful human being and great man. I knew George in high school. He was a leader on and off the football field, a joy to be around and a wonderful example to everyone. What a loss for his family and the community. I am so sorry. Michele Doolin Giltmier
