Francis George (Frank) passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Veterans Medical Center in Miami. Frank was born on March 21, 1943 in Ridley Park, Pa. He moved to Miami in 1958, graduated from Miami Senior High School and attended Miami-Dade College until he joined the Air Force in 1962. He was assigned to the Strategic Air Command and served as Crew Chief in North Africa, England, the Azores and Labrador. In Guam and in the Philippines his assignment was fueling bombers in the air and evacuating the wounded. After his discharge, he moved to Key Largo where he lived for more than 35 years. Frank was a professional guitarist with a beautiful singing voice. In business, he was a Journeyman Electrician and devoted much of his spare time to Veteran and Civic Organizations and to youth sports where he was known as “Coach”. He was Past Commander of American Legion Post 333, where he was a Charter Member, and served in many official capacities over the years. He was also a Past District Director for The American Legion. Frank was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10211, a member of the Sons of the American Legion, a Past Member and Officer of the La Societe Des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux #1562, a member of Disabled American Veterans Marathon #122, a life member of AMVETS, a Fellow of The Loyal Order of Moose Key Largo #2287, and a member of The Elks Florida Keys #1872. Frank is survived by his Mother, Kay Fahinger of Coral Gables, his special Aunt Marie Boykin in Pennsylvania, his Granddaughters Alyssa and Lindsey Ruple in Tennessee, his adopted daughter Samantha Hodges and Grandson Hunter Scott Lord, many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews from throughout the country, and the Blass family, his very close Key Largo family. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 30th, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Elks Lodge in Tavanier, Florida. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Legion Post 333 Childrens Fund or to a charity of your choice.
