I remember that she liked her coffee black, and hot. She would ahhhh when taking that first sip. I remember that she liked to alternate eating Peanut M&Ms and Cheez-Its. I remember that she always wore Red Door. The combined scents of Red Door and coffee will forever transport me back to middle school, sitting in her basement finishing homework, while she worked over giant vendor placement sheets at the kitchen table. I remember that the tree in her back yard always had a coconut or two sitting at its base, but we were never able to crack it open. I remember how proud I was to be identified as "Evelyn Gauzens' granddaughter" to everyone I met in Miami. I remember what an incredible symbol she was, because of her presence and her contributions.
