ESTHER HRISKOS LIRAKIS's Obituary
Esther H. Lirakis, 89, passed away peacefully on May 23 surrounded by her family. She was born in Easton Pennsylvania and moved to Miami in 1958. She worked for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, retiring from Kendale Elementary School.
Our mother cared greatly about her family, her friends, and the welfare of others. We will miss her sense of humor. After her stroke her loss of speech did not impair her ability to communicate. Even in her wheelchair she had a commanding presence. We would like to thank the Palace for allowing her to maintain her independence and dignity.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Steve and her sister Bessie Hriskos. She is survived by her devoted son Steve and loving daughter Irene, her sisters, Constance Wolfe and Irene Dushkind, her sisters-in-law Helen Lirakis and Charlotte Lurakis, cousins George Roberts and Catherine Coffey, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends on tonight Wednesday May 27, 2015 from 7:00pm-9:00pm with a Trisagion service at 7:30pm. Services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2401 sw 3rd ave., followed by interment at Woodlawn Park South. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
