ERNESTO MARTINEZ's Obituary
Ernesto Martinez Gil, age 83, of Miami, FL, died July 19, 2021. He was born in Havana, Cuba. He had a Bachelor of Accounting Degree with his own accounting firm. He was married to Magaly Martinez for over 60 years. He was the former President, Vice President and Treasurer of the Florida Association of Independent Accountants. He was elected to the Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee for over 40 years.
He was also elected twice as the Treasurer of the Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee serving for two 4 year terms.
My father and mother were inseparable for over 60 years. They worked together in their accounting firm. He taught me accounting and his work ethic. As a Cuban exile, it was not easy to come to America with my mother, grandmother and a five year old child and leaving behind all physical possessions. He taught me that the Communists can take your possessions but they can’t take your knowledge and experience. My family had to build a new life leaving everything behind. He had multiple jobs at one time, but said my job was to study. He always pushed me to pursue my education. He loved politics and a good discussion. He liked to read and study, and he could discuss history, policy and community topics. So he was always involved in the community and taught me the value of public service.
