Erik John Lagzdins' Obituary
Erik John Lagzdins passed away at the age of 52 on Tuesday April 21, 2026. He was a devoted son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and godfather, and an important member of a family that loved him very much. Erik was a loyal friend and his compassion and understanding kind nature were qualities that endeared him to others. Erik had a terrific sense of humor, his knowledge was abundant and he loved being smart and sharing his experiences with family and friends always. Erik was born in Miami, Florida on October 3rd, 1973, to his parents Inara Sandra and Gunars Lagzdins, who welcomed his arrival with much joy. He attended Miami Killian Senior High School, was an honors student, science Silver Knight Award winner and always loved to learn. Erik graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor Degree in Biology and went on to obtain his Masters Degree in Business from Indiana University. Upon completing these academic accomplishments, Erik focused on his passion for travel. With great love for his family heritage, Erik moved to Latvia where he established his travel career and business. Over the next many years, Erik circled the globe, visiting over 120 countries, always having a deep quest for knowledge about the people, culture and history of the places he visited. Because of the covid crisis, travel restrictions redefined the travel world, and in 2021 Erik returned to Miami to be with family where he remained until his tragic passing.Erik is survived by his mother, Inara Sandra Lagzdins; his sister, Mara Lagzdins-Apergis and brother-in-law, George Apergis; niece and nephew, Abby and Ari Apergis. He will be greatly missed, always remembered and loved forever. Erik was preceded in death by his father, Gunars Lagzdins, and his grandparents, Vera and Olgerts Lagzdins and Rozalija Ziedins. A private family service will be held at the Van Orsdel Funeral Home. Erik will be laid to rest alongside his beloved father at the Latvian Memorial Park Cemetery in Catskills, New York.
