ERIKSEN
Erik King, Sept. 15, 1930 – May 29, 2015. Erik was born in Bogense, Denmark to Kaj Viktor Jacobsen and Thora Konig Jacobsen. He is survived by his sister, Tilde von der Heyde, Aarhaus, Denmark. Erik’s early years were spent in Aarhaus, where he was selected to represent Denmark in rowing at the London 1948 Olympics. In 1951, he graduated from Aarhaus University with a degree in electrical engineering. After joining the Danish Air Force, Erik was sent to Moultrie, GA to train in T-33’s for flying Denmark’s first jet fighters. While in Moultrie, he met Suzanne Searcy, who he married in Oct. 1953. Upon returning to Denmark, Erik flew combat missions for the UN in Egypt during the Suez Crisis in 1956. After emigrating to the United States in 1957, he attended Georgia Tech, earned his electrical engineering registration and joined Florida Power and Light, where he worked for 31 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1989. Erik was an accomplished pianist and also enjoyed playing the violin. Astronomy, clock-making, model shipbuilding and target shooting at the rifle range were among Erik’s many skills. Others will recall his endless, ribald limericks with which he entertained all within hearing. Service 10 am Tuesday, May 2nd at East Ridge Village Chapel. Burial will be private.
