Enrique Monnar's Obituary
MIAMI SPRINGS, FL - Enrique Monnar, 77, of Miami Springs, passed away on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025. Born in Havana, Cuba on September 2, 1947, he embodied the American dream while maintaining deep pride in his Cuban heritage.
Enrique (Rick), a loving husband and father, was a distinguished airline captain who spent much of his career with Eastern Airlines, later flying for several other carriers. His passion for aviation extended beyond the cockpit as he dedicated countless hours to teaching aspiring pilots as a flight instructor. Throughout his life, Enrique faced numerous physical challenges with remarkable determination and grit, earning the deep admiration of friends and family for his toughness and resilience in the face of adversity.
A renaissance man at heart, Enrique was a lifelong student of history, particularly fascinated by the rich histories of Cuba, Spain, and the great empires. He regularly filled his home with music, singing opera, playing guitar, and sharing his love of the Beatles with family and friends. He also found joy in DIY projects, meticulously tending to his home, approaching each task with the same precision and attention to detail that marked his flying career.
Born to Enrique and Argentina (Tina) Monnar, he was one of four children; their only son. Along with his family, he made the brave journey to the United States during the Cuban exile of the early 1960s, embodying the strength and resilience that would define his life. His deep connection to family and heritage remained a cornerstone of his identity throughout his life.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Angie, with whom he shared 47 beautiful years, 42 of them as husband and wife. He is survived by his three children, Jennifer, Abilio (Abi), and Sean, as well as four cherished grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Enrique and Angie's home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Save the Children in his memory.
