Emilio John Lepore's Obituary
LEPORE, Emilio J “Babe” 90, Worcester, MA passed away peacefully before dawn on Christmas Day. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Doris Ann and his children, Michelle Lepore Deegan of Wellington, FL, Patrick A. Lepore, Indialantic, FL, Michael Victor Lepore and wife Aruna Lepore, Coral Gables, FL and his beloved grandchildren, Cara & Shaye Deegan, Andrew & Evan Lepore and Mia Angelina Lepore. Proceeded in death by his parents, Angelina & Pasquale Lepore of Melizzano, Italy. Raised on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester, MA, Babe spent his early youth playing a myriad of sports at East Park with his three older brothers, Arnold, Albert and Victor. Soon after graduating as a star athlete at Commerce High School, Babe enlisted in the US Navy as a Physical Ed Instructor during WWII and served his country at the US Naval Base in New Port Rhode Island. After the war he headed south to the warm weather to attended University of Miami, received an Athletic Scholarship as the starting First Baseman on the U of M baseball team from 1947 to 1950. Through the years he was an active member of the University of Miami "Varsity M" Club. Coach Lepore later received his Masters of Administration & Supervision from Florida State University and a Specialist in Education, from Nova University. Babe will be most remembered for his many years of extraordinary commitment to education and local high school sports, with more than 44 years of teaching, coaching and running the Athletic Department at Southwest High School in Dade County, FL. He was the last remaining member of the original SW High School faculty from 1956 and retired in 1993. He continued to substitute for Dade County Schools for an additional ten years. When he wasn't teaching Babe also enjoyed cooking, creating wonderful Southern Italian dishes for friends and family. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 10:30am. Interment at South Florida National Cemetery.
