In Loving Memory of Emilia Vega
Celebration of Life Memorial Service
September 5, 2020
Her journey began on 5/19/1933 in Colombia, South America and she lived to enjoy her 87th birthday. A woman of noteworthy strong character, very caring and loving to her family. Emilia carried out her strong desire to help others in her family and at work. She was a spiritual woman of strong faith and grateful to God for her many blessings. She was especially committed to going out of her way to do something special for her family.
As you reflect on Emilia’s life, be reminded of your special memories of her that will warm your heart. Remember the things she said or did, for it will make you smile. For you have been blessed through her love and your life has been impacted in some significant way.
She was a devoted wife to Hernando Vega (Deceased), her husband of 60+ years and a loving mother. After leaving their homeland, she and her husband Hernando relocated to the United States and settled in the Miami, Florida area where they became residents for 60+ years. Emilia and Hernando were proud parents of their three children Rosie Sicre, Omar Vega, and Ozzie Vega. And they became grandparents to five amazing grandchildren: Dax and David Sicre, Taylor, Dylan, and Chelsea Vega.
She cooked with love and passion from her heart. She believed in celebrating each of her children and “Grands” by making them their very own favorite special home cooked birthday meal. Her time cooking in the kitchen was done with pride and love in making many Colombian style dishes for family gatherings and holidays. “Abuela’s” recipes and favorite dishes will be remembered and passed down for generations to treasure.
The matriarch of the Vega Family, she was a woman of faith, wise and an independent thinker. She retired after 30+ years as a healthcare provider, caring for many elderly clients who became like her extended family. Upon retiring as a healthcare companion, she and Hernando returned to their native homeland of Columbia and maintained a dual citizenship residing in Florida and Bucaramanga, Colombia spending six months in each country yearly.
Her favorite past time included spending quality time with family, traveling and cooking her traditional foods. Emilia started a family tradition of making Christmas mondel bread and Christmas cookies as gifts for many family, friends and church members. Many will miss looking forward to receiving their Christmas cookies tin. Emilia built her legacy of service by being an excellent steward with a humble heart of sharing and caring for others. She and Hernando served their community and church together. They served in a number of capacities at St. Mary Magdalen Church in their ministry and blessed others by volunteering on many committees and doing things to contribute to the success of church gatherings.
Emilia was an advocate for supporting an elder care facility in Colombia where she and Hernando donated their time, talent, and resources. They were very supportive of people in need, orphans and very charitable during their travels. She was a good steward of her finances and knew how to stretch a dollar. Emilia will be remembered for her compassionate giving heart and joyful spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate your donating to St. Jude website The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Which was an organization Emilia loved to support and was close to her heart.
