Eloise Ott Zakevich's Obituary
ELOISE MARION OTT ZAKEVICH died on January 5th, 2019. She was born on March 21, 1924 in Easton, PA to Louise and Norman Ott. They moved to New Haven, CT in 1929 where she resided until her move to Miami, Florida in 1957. She is survived by her daughters Lynn (Gary Milano) and Dawn Zakevich, granddaughter Alexandra Marr Bundrick (Andrew), grandsons Justin Marr and Peter Milano (Anne Marie), and great grandchildren Natasha, Brandon, and Evan Bundrick, and Charles Milano. She was predeceased by her great granddaughter Leah Bundrick. Eloise had many talents and a varied career. She was exceptionally talented in portraiture in oil, pencil and charcoal. Her love of beautiful wood had her elbow-deep refinishing furniture quite often, and as a seamstress she was unparalleled, sewing everything from draperies to bridal gowns to furniture slipcovers. Eloise also lovingly sewed, embroidered and couched the seasonal alter cloths at Coral Gables Congregational Church where she has been a member since the 1960s. Her working career started in a law office as a title searcher, then to becoming a dental technician but her twenty years at the University of Miami was where she found her niche. Starting as a clerk in the Department of Biomedical Engineering she “graduated” to the position of Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. From there she relocated to Washington, DC and worked for the Joint Oceanographic Institution, a U.S. consortium for ocean drilling research located in The Watergate Building. But – missing Miami and family – she returned to Miami and went to work at Planet Ocean on Virgina Key. Eloise finished up her career as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the School of Business at “The U” from where she retired. Memorial Donations may be sent to Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 DeSoto Blvd., Coral Gables, FL 33134, or an Animal Welfare Society. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February, 3rd, 2019 at 1:00pm at Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 DeSoto Blvd., and a reception will be held after the service at her home.
