Elin T. Mathewson's Obituary
Elin Mathewson entered this world on February 21st, 1936, the second child and oldest daughter of Magnus and Inga Melsted. She was born in Grafton, North Dakota, and spent her early childhood and elementary years on the family farm near Mountain, North Dakota, an Icelandic Community.
After graduation from college in 1959 with a degree in Home Economics, she spent a number of years teaching High School Home Economics and serving as school librarian. She met her husband, Grover Mathewson, while teaching in Beaumont, California. She and Grover were married in 1969. They had two children Lori and Edward. In 1985, Elin began working as a dietician and spent 24 years working for the Dade County Health Department in the WIC program in Miami, Florida. She retired from WIC on June 19th 2009. On February 25th, 2013, she passed to her rest after an almost two year battle with cancer.
She is survived by her Daughter Lori (Arthur) Grassia; Son Edward Mathewson; Granddaughter Carys; grandson Dylan; brothers Marino Melsted; Waldemar (Ida) Melsted; and her sister Mary (Craig) Fiess; and several nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Grover; parents Magnus and Inga Melsted; sisters Thorey Melsted; Ruth Melsted; and sister-in-law Marlys Melsted.
