Eleanore H. Gerhart's Obituary
SMALLEY-GERHART,
Eleanore H., 90, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, June 9, 2012, surrounded by her family. Eleanore was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 2, 1922, daughter of Charles and Bonnie Trulock Hodges. Her family moved to Miami in 1924 where her father started the Miami Burglar Alarm Company. She graduated Miami High School class of 1939 and attended Virginia Intermount College. In 1940 Eleanore married H. Earl Smalley, Jr. whose family were pioneers in the car rental business. They lived in Coral Gables and raised eight children. Eleanore married Franklin (Swansie) Gerhart in 1981. Mom and Swansie enjoyed their travels throughout Europe, Mexico and United States. She loved the mountains of North Carolina where they summered in Boone and Blowing Rock and lived at the Hound Ears Country Club. When Swansie died in 1995 she lived out her life at her home in Miami.”Miss Ellie” as he was known to her friends, was a gracious and spirited lady. She was proud of her Southern heritage as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy. Eleanore is survived by her children Barbara Selznick, Marilyn, Peter, Patricia Bingham (Bill), Susan Jaffe, Lizbeth, and Michael (Gina). Her stepdaughters Lyn Esco (David) and Janet Kellett (Samuel), her grandchildren, Bonnie Roth (Kelly), Trey Landry (Clara), Geoffrey Landry (Chris), Michael, Chris and Derek Jaffe (Deborah), Matthew and Charles Smalley. Great-grandchildren Fletcher Landry, Sansi Nicole and Carter Roth, Natalia, Ryder and Tigist Landry, Finn Jaffe and her brother Charles G. Hodges. She is predeceased by her husband Franklin Gerhart, precious daughter Sansi Landry, her sister Jean Fishwick, and her former husband Earl Smalley. Mom will remain in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank Adeline Dorleus, Valerie Lewis, Emma Medina and Gabriela Long who cared for their mother with love and dignity. And a special remembrance to Dr. Richard Elias her physician of over 40 years. Private funeral services and entombment will be held at Woodlawn Park Cemetery North.
