Eileen Power McCaughan's Obituary
MCCAUGHAN
EILEEN POWER, born November 9, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York. In 1940 she married James Woodrow McCaughan in a marriage that spanned 63 years until the death of Jim in 2003. Their love and devotion for each other and their family was unlimited. They were simply inseparable. She was a loving: wife to Jim; mother to her six children, Mary (Ernie), Peppy (Roger), Ann (Barry), Joan (Carlos), Jim (Ann) and Bill (Joan); grandmother to her twenty-one grandchildren, Bill, Beth, Mike, Tricia, Kathleen, Cristina, Stephanie, Brian, Kimberley, Patrick, Kevin, Megan, Eileen, Melissa, Jamie, Kelly, Katie, Billy, Colleen, James and Peter; and great-grandmother to 15 great-grandchildren. Graduated from Our Lady of Wisdom Academy and Hunter College, where she was recognized as “The Healthiest Girl at Hunter” and majored in Physics. She worked at Ford Motor, where she participated at the 1939 World’s Fair, and then worked at the Equitable Life Insurance Company. Upon moving to Coral Gables, she and Jim started McCaughan Mortgage Company, where she served as Chief Financial Officer. After many wonderful summers spent at the Key Biscayne Hotel, they moved to Key Biscayne in the 1970s. A part of her heart remained in New York, where they maintained a vacation home in the mountain town of Windham. She was a devout Catholic who attended daily mass and was active in Catholic Charities including serving on the boards of both St. Vincent’s Home and the Marian Center Auxiliary. She was a long time member of Riviera Country Club and the Key Biscayne Yacht Club. She loved playing golf with Jim and their two sons, playing bridge with Eileen, Melissa, Jamie and friends, traveling around Europe with family and going out for a meal from time to time. The wake is scheduled at 7:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Church, 100 Harbor Drive, Key Biscayne, FL on Friday, October 28, 2011. The funeral mass will be at the same location at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011.
