EILEEN CLAIRE FENELLO's Obituary
Eileen McPadden Fenello, 91, passed away peacefully at her family’s Coral Gables home after a long illness. Eileen Claire McPadden was born in Brooklyn, New York, to James and Bridget Callahan McPadden. Young Eileen worked as a model, secretary and then as a stewardess for Eastern Air Lines. Her airline career ended when she met and married her co-pilot for life, Michael Fenello. During their 50 year marriage they moved several times, in association with Mikes’ career at Eastern, and later as Deputy Administrator of the FAA, residing in Huntington, Long Island, Miami and Mount Dora/Eustis, Florida, and Washington, D.C. Together, until his death in 1997, they raised three girls, Carol Fenello (Roy Wasson), Jean (Richard) Patterson and Lois (Douglas) Chumbley. Eileen enjoyed the love of her grandchildren, Laura, Samantha, Michael, Paige, Carter, Daniel and Kate. Eileen was a beautiful, witty and devoted wife, mother, cook and friend. She delighted in travelling the world with her husband, but her family was the source of her greatest joy. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister Patsy, and brothers Buddy, Frank, and Robert. She is survived by her brother-in-law John Daly and many dear McPadden and Daly nephews and nieces. She cherished and is survived by Michael's sister Anne and husband Harry Ivanuska, and their children Patricia, Jean and John. Eileen especially treasured their holidays together, which never failed to deliver the magical combination of family, food, and a few Manhattans. We appreciate the remembrances of her by the Eastern Air Lines Pilots Wives Club and thoughtful friends over the years. Words cannot express our gratitude for the extraordinary devotion, for over a decade, of her dedicated caregiver, Marjorie Mendoza. Marjorie's skilled care and warm affection, as well as that of Marjorie's son Alex, special caregiver Marta Varela, and Catholic Hospice, ensured Eileen’s comfort and dignity for the many years of her illness. Eileen passed away on January 22nd, to join her beloved Michael on his birthday. We love and miss her. Friends are welcome at a Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Van Orsdel Coral Gables Chapel, 4600 S. W. 8 Street.
