EDWARD NEWCOMB MOYLAN's Obituary
MOYLAN,
Edward Newcomb (Ted), 90, died on July 30, 2014. Ted was born on October 25,
1923 in Albany, NY to Eleanor Flack Moylan and Edward Burke Moylan. Ted went
to Cushman School, Robert E. Lee Jr. High and then would ride the street car to
Miami Sr. High where he graduated in 1941. After high school he went to The
Citadel Military College in South Carolina. While at The Citadel he was drafted
into the US Army and became a member of the 99th
Infantry Division also known
as the Checkerboard Division. He fought in WWII in the Battle of the Bulge in the
Ardennes Forest in Belgium where he received a purple heart. After WWII Ted
enrolled at Duke University where he met the love of his life Lena Jane Harris and
after they graduated they were married in 1949 in the Duke Chapel. After the
wedding they moved back to Miami and then in 1953 to Coral Gables where he
resided until his death.
Ted’s professional career was in Real Estate initially with Houser Realty and then
as an investor. He was very active and loved to hunt and fish with his family in
Okeechobee, Key Largo and the Adirondack Mountains. He also loved to play
golf with his buddies at Riviera Country Club. He was a long time coach to many
through Khoury League baseball. Ted was also a member of the Kiwanis Club
and the University Club. He summered in the Adirondack Mountains at the
Underwood Club where he had been going since 1924. Mostly he liked to spend
time with family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him
because of the love, loyalty and sense of humor he would always show them.
Ted is survived by his wife Lena Harris Moylan, son Clint Carter Moylan,
daughter in law Laura Parker Moylan and grandson Carter Newcomb Moylan
of Coral Gables, daughter Molly Moylan Jenkins, son in law Rusty Jenkins and
granddaughters Savannah Jane Jenkins and Summer Jo Jenkins of Monticello,
FL. He was predeceased by sons Edward Newcomb Moylan Jr. and infant Kevin
William Moylan. A private memorial service was previously held by family at St.
Thomas Episcopal Parish.
