Edna Janet Camacho's Obituary
Born in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, in Fletcher, North Carolina. Studied at American University in Washington, D.C., while working with the US Navy as a civilian; Received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of Business Administration.
In the early 1950’s, Edna met and married her husband Simon Camacho. Together they founded Camacho Cigars, Inc. in 1961, which to date are extremely successful and world renowned. Currently under the ownership of Davidoff of Geneva.
Camacho Cigars, Inc., manufactured hand rolled cigars from a high quality sun-grown tobacco from their own tabacco plantations in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Honduras. Anastasia Somoza, past president in Nicaragua; Dr. Jose Maria Castillo and Juan Francisco Bermejo were associates and each played an important part in the success of this venture.
Edna was a highly regarded officer of the Miami Elks Lodge 948. She spent much of her retirement writing poetry and was a published author, “Aw Sweet Sunflower”. The majority of her poetry is about life, all humanity and barriers which are unnecessary.
She loved God, life, family, friends, people, animals, travelling and bowling.
